Freestone!

Hinds, the fella that ran The Hotel
in the 1870's,when the Railroad
was trestling over Salmon Creek
up t' Summit, now Occidental,
burnt some of those trestles...
It sorta happened again about
a hundred years later...
... Here's some history. Revolutionary War, Calistoga, Freestone & everything else politic...

(Some background stuff) On June 5th.. The jerks at LAFCO
approved O'Reilly's Development!

Even after lambasting The City of Sebastopol,They threw sensible planning out the window! It's a decent company led astray by absolute goofus' running Sebastopol!

We did just have a mighty fine "Bash" for Ernie Carpenter who didn't win either.
He's going to Costa Rica for a couple months so they threw him a darn fine fundraiser to get him out of town.
Did you see that super Back-drop painting by Tony King behind everbody on stage?
the scene was from the top of Quail Hill... It's sorta to the upper right and out of the photo on the left there... Everyone should see that place before the "Nine Luxury Homes" get all built up, the fences and gates set in concrete and there's full-employment for high-priced gardeners.
Just beyond the pond, 222 acres streaching a long ways down and to the right, was sold Tuesday, the 25th of March...1.45 million by John McNulty heading a large investment group. They had just paid 8 million for The Fountain Grove Development in Santa Rosa. They got the core of Freestone cheap... Who knows what's going to happen.
They can't put in condos.
Housing was the economic driving force of the seventies. Now we're overun by vineyards and "Gentlemen Estate Grapes". And the screwy thing IS, is that the south western end of town, behind the The Wishing Well Nursrey, is in escrow. The sale is contingent on a use permit for 130,000 sg. feet under roofs, mostly greenhouses! They're gonna Saran-wrap Freestone! And This isn't Christo! Sounds like it's stopped! It's for Grapevine root-starts... They could do that in a warehouse district! Just because you build tires doesn't mean you're fashioning hand-crafted Ferrarii's! This is just a plain ol' commercial development hidden under a PC sign! What about the groundwater it'll suck-up?
Agriculure saved us then. Now what do we ask for?... It's somethin' t' ponder... HEY! It's been called OFF! wonder what's next...

Slippery slide to skip way down the long page...

Up-Date!...
Here's the Daily news from Iceland!

Here's a shot to The Bodega Bay Navigator
They seem to be about a month slow getting the stuff on-line.
But... They do better than the other hardcopy rags around here.
Fainting with damn praise just because
I'm miffed at Stephanie right now,,, it'll pass...

Try this... sorta down to the middle...

freestone.com Is Evolving Like a Rock. If you really want all the words to be spelled right, go read a dictionary... I've got my hands full as it is...

This valley is under a big pressure to catch up with the appearance properly reflecting the changing dollar sign demographics. More vineyards, more obvious wealth... All I can do, as a token rustic is piss and moan...

    The Judi Bari Homepage
Here's a collection of some links about the best agitator, organizer and natural force the North West has seen in a long time.
In the spirit of Mother Jones, Judi Bari would not accept coporate decimation of The Old Growth Redwoods. The FBI's infamous Co-Intel agents abused her rights. Somebody or a group, exploded a bomb under her butt. She kept fighting through the anguish of fallen trees and the physical pain from the bombing.
It took the greater natural force of cancer to take her body. Nothing will still her voice, stop her will or reverse her actions.

    Next Stop The Courts!

The jerks at LAFCO ...( Are you listening Tim Smith??? You know what HE DID ,he said how lousy a job Sebastopol did of planning, THEN he went and voted for it!) approved what they very specifically said was "not just BAD planning, but planning by convenience! Planning that went against common sense , and not to come back to LAFCO again in this fashion... Then they voted 4-3 in favor of the horrendous traffic, planning and land-use mess! Tim O'Reilly was very revealing in saying Sebastopol had guided him toward that site! Even though light industrial growth was set on paper, COLOR-CODED to take place on the south side of Town! The City was pushing a bad site on Tim from the beginning! How much extra money did he have to spend following the screwed-up direction of The City of Sebastopol!

  • ERIC KOENIGSHOFER
    4 SUPE !!!

Oh... Did I mention He didn't quite win...

In Northern California, north of San Francisco you will find Sonoma County. An embarassingly beautiful meeting of winerys and sprawling vineyards,Ancient Redwoods towering above quiet lush glens, the rock crashing coastal Pacific surf surrounding a rich Oak studded valley circled by protective hills to peaks. The County's Fifth District runs from Neighborhoods south of Santa Rosa, west to the Pacific then north to the Mendocino County border.

Well... Eric lost by a darn fair chunk... Mike Reilly won and things won't go to hell in a hand-basket by any strech.

Past Issues That still need continued attention
    ...blah, blah, blah
Remember using a potato launcher?Take some PVC plastic pipe sharpened at one end with a potato stuck on and some lighter fluid sprayed in the base struck with a spark... Ka-blammm!!!! Potato sails like crazy. I'm using a road culvert and some of those big ol' pumpkins to shell Real Estate Broker's convoys along Bodega Hwy below me. (see the above picture of Jake) Maybe somebody will write something like "The Star Spangled Banner" about me if I set the pumpkins on fire before they come streakin' into The Town of Bodega!

Since you're in the neighborhood, don't miss The Bodega Big Event!...later part of August...
    But!... Look for The Salmon Creek Watershed Day at The Salmon Creek Middle School, in Freestone, later in the summer! The School is right near a long ago gone trestle that Hinds set on fire tryin' to keep the railroad workers in Freestone. {See the top of this too long page!}
