No Spray Facts and History
from Mari Russell

No Spray Action Network formed in July in response to the CDFA's Pierces Disease Control Program and the Workplan that was being adopted by our Board of Supervisors.

We formed in order to do direct action, which we have done in different forms.
1. Mobilized people and testified at the board of Supes meetings, lobbied for public Hearing and testified at both local and State Public Hearings.
2. Mounted petition campaign and submitted copies to Board of Supes, CDFA State Public Hearing, Senator Chesbro. (We are still gathering signatures and I'd like to have 30,000 signatures. )
3. Lobbied Elected Officials such as Senator Chesbro and Lynn Woolsey. Senator Chesbro did send a letter to Bob Wynn of the CDFA supporting Sonoma County Board of Supes to consider Public and environmental health when adopting Sonoma County Workplan. He cc'd the BOS so they would know they had his support to break out of the State's Boiler Plate Workplan .(unfortunately, they did not break out of much)(As a point of interest Santa Cruz adopted a Workplan that does not call for mandatory spraying etc. and it looks like the State is letting them go with it)
4. Mounted media campaign, Articles, letters to the editor, interviews, etc.
5. Sponsored Non-Violent Trainings
6. Have had three public meetings and gave people a chance to form committees.
1. Orientation, Database and Volunteers
2. Public Education & Media
3. Research and Materials
4. Direct Action
5. Health
6. Art and Fundraising 7. Legal
8. Building Bridges(We are still in the process of forming this committee)
9. Website and Miscellaneous

Mission Statement:
The No Spray Action Network opposes the government-mandated forced spraying of pesticides against the Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter. We are committed to non-violent means to protect human health and the environment.

Some facts about the Statewide program:
1. Riverside County was aerial sprayed twice with Lorsban a banned pesticide for home use, and limited agricultural use.
2. Tulare County ground sprayed in two separate cities in neighborhoods with Carbaryl. They did not spray people that said No.
3. Sacramento County was sprayed(I'm not sure how many different cites) There was a mobile Home Park for the elderly ground sprayed with Carbaryl
4. Contra Costa County was sprayed just last September. 200 homes ground sprayed with Carbaryl and Merit I Believe.
5. Kern County is beginning massive spraying.

Everything they a proposing spraying that I have heard of are nerve toxins and especially harmful for infants and children. Please see our pamphlets for more details on a few of the Pesticides proposed.
